LED Advertising Truck Rental and P3 LED Screen Truck Services
An approximately 3.5 m × 1.8 m, 6.3 m² P3 LED screen shows brand videos, animated advertisements and event information. Routes, operating times and on-site promotion across Hong Kong's 18 districts bring changeable content to your target audience.
Vehicle Specification
Main LED screen truck specifications
- LED pixel pitch: P3: approximately 3 mm between pixel centres
- Screen dimensions: Approximately 3.5 m × 1.8 m
- Screen area: Approximately 6.3 m²
- Aspect ratio: Approximately 1.94:1, different from 16:9
- Content format: Images, video, animation and text information
- Service area: All 18 Hong Kong districts, subject to route and venue conditions
- Suitable uses: Brand campaigns, product launches, openings, seasonal offers, exhibitions, roadshows and event promotion
P3 means approximately 3 mm between LED pixel centres. Smaller pitch places more pixels within the same area, suiting closer viewing on pedestrian streets, at event entrances, around shopping centres and at stationary displays.
Because the physical dimensions are approximate, obtain the booked vehicle's actual pixel canvas, proportions and safe areas before delivering final files. Do not assume output resolution from physical measurements alone.
Technical estimates from physical dimensions
Using P3 pixel pitch and approximate dimensions of 3.5 m × 1.8 m gives the following estimates. These are calculations from pixel pitch; final production must use the actual canvas output by the vehicle's controller. They can nevertheless help a design team plan content at the quotation stage:
| Parameter | Estimated result | Calculation |
|---|---|---|
| Horizontal pixels | Approximately 1,166 px | 3,500 mm ÷ 3 mm |
| Vertical pixels | Approximately 600 px | 1,800 mm ÷ 3 mm |
| Total pixels | Approximately 700,000 px, or 0.7 MP | 1,166 × 600 |
| Pixel density per square metre | Approximately 111,000 px/m² | Standard industry density for P3 |
| Aspect ratio | Approximately 1.94:1 | 3.5 ÷ 1.8 |
| Difference from 16:9 | Approximately 9%; 16:9 is 1.78:1 | 1.94 ÷ 1.78 |
This 9% difference is a frequent source of artwork mistakes. If a 1920 × 1080, 16:9 design is scaled to 1,166 pixels wide, it becomes about 656 pixels high—roughly 56 pixels taller than a 600-pixel screen. The result must either be cropped at the top and bottom or distorted to fit. Always obtain the actual canvas specifications before designing.
These pixel figures are estimates calculated from P3 pitch and approximate dimensions, not the vehicle's rated specifications. The confirmed vehicle's delivery requirements determine actual pixels, aspect ratio, safe areas and supported formats.
What is an LED screen promotional truck?
Also called an LED advertising truck, LED promotional vehicle, large-screen advertising truck or digital mobile billboard, it carries an outdoor LED display and plays content along agreed routes, at selected times or at specified venues.
Its main difference from conventional vehicle stickers is that content can be changed. The same truck can show an event preview in the morning, product features in the afternoon and limited-time offers or countdowns in the evening, without printing and fitting new stickers.
LED trucks are particularly suitable for campaigns that:
- Need offer, timing, countdown or product updates during the campaign
- Show product demonstrations, brand video, animation or major-event footage
- Target evening shopping, dinner periods, concert departures or seasonal lighting hours
- Use different content for different routes or times
- Test creative results with separate QR codes or offer codes
- Have dates too close for new vehicle graphics to be printed
Another LED advantage: lead time
Market information suggests around 14 days from printing vehicle stickers to fitting them. With design revisions, overall lead time often reaches three to five weeks. An LED truck only needs compliant MP4 or JPEG files, substantially shortening production when a vehicle is available. This is particularly useful for store openings, seasonal offers, sudden promotions and product launches with longer confidentiality periods.
If content stays the same for weeks or months, conventional vehicle graphics may be more economical because their upfront printing cost is spread over more days. For a detailed comparison, read LED Advertising Trucks vs Vehicle Wrap Advertising: Brightness, Pixel Pitch, Costs and Uses。
P3 LED Technology
What does a P3 LED screen mean?
Pixel pitch determines close-range clarity
The P value is pixel pitch: the distance between adjacent pixel centres. P3 is approximately 3 mm. At the same physical area, P3 has a higher pixel density than P4, P5 or P6, suiting closer viewing and finer detail.
Three industry viewing-distance formulas give different answers
Three common formulas for an optimal viewing distance answer different questions. For the same P3 screen, they give 3 m, 4.5–6 m and 10.3 m. These measure different things rather than contradict one another:
| Method | Formula | P3 result | Question answered |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1:1 rule | Minimum distance in metres = pitch in millimetres | Approximately 3 m | At closer distances, the pixel grid begins to become visible |
| Comfortable-viewing rule | Pixel pitch × 1.5–2 | Approximately 4.5–6 m | A practical distance for a seamless video image |
| Visual-acuity formula | Pixel pitch × 3.44, for 20/20 vision | Approximately 10.3 m | The distance at which normal vision can no longer distinguish individual pixels |
Practical conclusion: P3's pixel grid is generally no longer visible beyond 3 m, 4.5–6 m is a comfortable video-viewing range, and the image appears fully seamless beyond 10 m.These distances fit typical Hong Kong pavements, shopping centre surroundings, event entrances and stationary displays.
A smaller pitch is not always better
If viewers are mainly more than ten metres away, the difference between P3 and larger pitches may be less noticeable than at close range, making the extra expense unnecessary. Consider:
- The audience's main viewing distance
- Whether the vehicle mainly tours or remains stationary
- Whether content uses large brand messages or detailed product images
- Ambient light by day, at night or indoors
- Physical screen size, actual pixels and content proportions
Ask for two numbers, rather than just “high definition”
When confirming LED specifications, ask for physical screen dimensions and actual pixel resolution. Verify pitch by dividing width in millimetres by horizontal pixels, or height in millimetres by vertical pixels.
For example, a 3,520 mm-wide screen with 880 horizontal pixels has a 4 mm pitch, or P4. This converts a vague high-definition claim into a comparable specification.
For more on pitch, brightness and viewing distance, read LED Screen Trucks vs Mini Promotional Trucks: Specifications, Brightness, Pixel Pitch and Costs。
What P3 means on Hong Kong streets
This point is rarely explained by suppliers, yet has a major effect on route planning.Typical street-level digital out-of-home viewing distances begin around ten metres, so fixed roadside screens often use pitches of roughly 6.9–10.4 mm. Finer pitches such as P3.9–P4.8 are commonly used for closer surfaces such as shopfronts, bus shelters and building entrances.
In other words, within outdoor displays P3 is a close-viewing specification, with three practical implications:
- Stationary displays make better use of P3 than fast driving. An approved stopping location around a shopping centre, event entrance, shop or busy pedestrian area lets viewers stand 3–6 metres away and benefit from the finer pitch.
- Slower streets are preferable to fast roads.Busy pedestrian streets with slower traffic give people time to focus and read. On expressways, speed largely cancels out P3's detail advantage.
- More detailed content can be used. The finer pitch supports product photography, food close-ups, development exteriors and layered animation instead of relying only on oversized text. This level of detail is beyond what P6 and coarser screens can offer at close range.
When planning a P3 truck campaign, we therefore usually recommend a mix of slow touring and stationary stops, rather than maximising kilometres driven. For route principles, see Mobile advertising truck routes, timing and coverage strategy。
LED brightness: practical day and night requirements
Outdoor LEDs need enough brightness to compete with sunlight. Industry guidance and field testing generally suggest: Around 5,000–7,000 nits for readability in full daylight; below roughly 4,000 nits, the image can look washed out at noon.
| Environment | Industry brightness guidance | Typical setting |
|---|---|---|
| Shade, north-facing sites or canopies | Approximately 3,500–5,000 nits | Sheltered shopping centre surroundings, covered walkways or indoor event venues |
| Open streets with changing orientation | Approximately 5,000–7,000 nits | Typical Hong Kong street touring and stationary displays |
| Surfaces facing strong direct sunlight | Approximately 8,000–10,000 nits | Unshaded locations facing the sun for extended periods at noon |
| Below 4,000 nits | Not recommended for daytime use | Midday sunlight can wash out text and contrast |
Contrast matters more than peak brightness
A common misconception is that more nits are always better. Under strong light, readability depends on image contrast, rather than peak brightness alone. On the same 6,000-nit screen, light text on a dark background is much clearer than white text on pale grey. Content design matters as much as hardware, which is why we get involved during design.
Do not retain maximum brightness at night
At night, maximum brightness can make images appear overexposed, obscure detail, distort colour and unnecessarily distract other road users. Adjust brightness and contrast to ambient light and test acceptance separately in day and night conditions.
These brightness ranges come from public outdoor LED industry information and field-testing guidance, for understanding specifications only. Each PEAKVEIN vehicle's rated brightness, adjustment range and night settings are determined by its equipment documentation and on-site tests.
What content can an LED truck show?
Static brand images
Show the brand, event date, one main offer, store location or a large product image. Static content is stable to read and is particularly suitable while the vehicle moves.
Video and animation
Use product demonstrations, launch previews, brand films, event highlights, seasonal animation or service steps. Re-edit for outdoor viewing distances and brief attention rather than copying a television or social media version. Clips can typically run around 10–30 seconds before looping, according to the campaign.
Rotating content sets
One campaign can schedule different content by time, for example:
| Time or stage | Content focus | Call to action |
|---|---|---|
| Before the event | Date, location, countdown and anticipation | Scan to register or learn more |
| On the event day | Launched product, programme and on-site information | Visit the venue or participate |
| After the event | Product availability and continuing offers | Buy, book or visit |
| Restaurant lunch period | Lunch sets, location and serving times | Visit or reserve that day |
| Afternoon tea | Light meals, drinks and time-limited discounts | Visit now |
| Dinner and evening | Signature dishes, group menus and limited-time offers | Book a table, order takeaway or join as a member |
QR codes and dedicated offer codes
Dedicated QR codes, offer codes, short URLs or phone numbers connect street exposure with measurable scans, registrations, reservations, visits or sales.
When testing two designs on one day, give each a different QR code to compare which product benefit or offer drives more conversions. This is a practical measurement advantage over fixed vehicle stickers: LED campaigns can run A/B tests.
Playback file formats
MP4 video and JPEG images are common. Confirm other formats, codecs, frame rates, file sizes, aspect ratios and audio against the delivery specifications for the booked vehicle.
Eight principles for LED advertising content
1. Give each screen one message
Outdoor viewers have little time. Putting a brand, product, offer, date, address, phone number and four QR codes together does not improve communication; it makes every message harder to absorb.
2. Design text for the actual viewing distance
Important text should remain recognisable around ten metres away. A phone preview held a few dozen centimetres from your eyes cannot represent street conditions. For a simple check, print or project the design at the screen's proportions, step back 5–6 metres and see whether the main message can be read immediately.
3. Use high-contrast colours
Light text on a dark background, or dark text on a light one, is generally clearer than similar mid-tone colours. Avoid excessive gradients, thin lines, shadows and small pale text. Contrast is especially important in daytime because it governs strong-light readability more than peak brightness alone.
4. Keep key information still
Keep the brand, date, phone number and QR code in fixed positions so viewers can focus. Animation draws attention, but constantly moving action details are harder to read.
5. Show QR codes where scanning is practical
A fast-moving vehicle may not give viewers enough time to scan. A better approach is:
- Show the brand, an offer code or a memorable short URL while moving.
- Show a larger QR code on slower streets or during stationary displays.
- Leave enough clear space around the code and keep animation away from it.
- Test different phones and viewing distances before deployment.
6. Re-edit video for outdoor viewing
Social clips often contain captions, fine detail and rapid cuts. Vehicle screens benefit from fewer shots, larger products and shorter sentences. P3 can show product close-ups clearly, but cuts should still be paced slowly.
7. Obtain actual pixels before exporting files
Do not default to 16:9 or 1920 × 1080. Approximate dimensions of 3.5 m × 1.8 m give a 1.94:1 ratio, around 9% different from 16:9's 1.78:1. Reusing the latter can crop the top and bottom or distort the image. Obtain the canvas and safe areas before designing.
8. Test in daylight and at night before deployment
A design that looks correct on a monitor may be unclear in sunlight or on a night street. Check brightness, colour, legibility, playback proportions and continuous stability under different ambient light during acceptance.
Artwork delivery checklist
Send this checklist to your designer or agency to reduce revisions. Obtain the specifications before designing, rather than after the artwork is finished:
| Item to confirm | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Actual pixel canvas: width × height | Determines artwork dimensions and prevents stretching, cropping or black borders |
| Aspect ratio | Approximately 1.94:1 differs from 16:9, so standard video templates cannot simply be reused |
| Safe area | The frame may cover screen edges; keep important text away from them |
| Accepted file formats | Usually MP4 and JPEG; confirm others first |
| Video codec and frame rate | An incompatible codec may prevent playback or cause dropped frames |
| Maximum size per file | Affects clip length and compression settings |
| Playlist order and durations | Determines rotation and each message's share of screen time |
| Whether audio output is available | Requires noise-control and event planning |
| File delivery deadline | Allows testing and corrections; do not wait until the day before the event |
| Whether content can change on site | Determines whether timed playlists or immediate changes are possible |

Which events suit an LED screen truck?
Product launches and releases
Show countdowns and teasers before a launch, switch to official product content at release, then display availability or offers afterwards. Vehicle stickers require roughly 14 days of production, which can conflict with launch confidentiality; LED content resolves that timing issue. Read The Complete Mobile Billboard Plan for Product Launches。
Store openings
Use separate messages on the day before opening, opening day and the following day: previews, opening offers and membership promotion. A short three-day campaign generally suits LED better than producing a full new vehicle wrap. Read A Three-Day Mobile Billboard Plan for Store Openings。
Restaurants and food events
Change content for lunch, afternoon tea, dinner and late-night meals, with separate offer codes measuring visits and reservations. P3's detail suits food close-ups. Read Mobile advertising strategies for food businesses。
Christmas and Lunar New Year promotions
Show countdowns, seasonal products, daily discounts and different messages for pre-holiday shopping and New Year celebrations. Peak-period vehicles book quickly, so confirm early. Read Seasonal Promotional Vehicle Planning Schedule。
Major events, exhibitions and roadshows
An LED truck can display information and direct visitors from surrounding streets, while a Mobile stage truck or Mobile showroom truck supports performances, product displays and interaction at the venue.
Property and financial brand promotion
Update content according to official documents, event dates and compliance requirements. Property advertisements involve content and timing requirements under the Residential Properties (First-hand Sales) Ordinance and should be checked by the vendor's compliance or legal team. Read Property Launches and Major Event Promotion。
Apps, games and digital products
Combine animation with a large QR code at stationary displays in areas popular with younger audiences to encourage downloads and registrations. Separate QR codes can compare creative approaches.
Recruitment and enrolment
Tour industrial areas at lunch, school routes at dismissal or transport hubs, showing vacancies, salary ranges or course information with QR applications or enrolment.
LED truck routes and timing across all 18 Hong Kong districts
Longer routes are not necessarily better
The more districts a truck visits within limited hours, the less time it can spend or repeat in each. With eight to nine available hours, two hours of return harbour and district travel reduce useful exposure by roughly a quarter. Plan two or three small audience-focused loops rather than one route across all Hong Kong.
Using official population data to choose districts
Official 2024 district figures put the largest populations in Sha Tin at around 704,000, Yuen Long at 677,000 and Kwun Tong at 668,000. By land-area density, Kwun Tong led at around 59,000 people/km², followed by Sham Shui Po at 47,000 and Wong Tai Sin at 44,000. Lower-density areas included Islands, Tai Po and North.
Business districts
Central, Admiralty, Wan Chai, Kwun Tong and Kowloon East suit finance, insurance, professional services, business products and B2B campaigns during weekday lunch and after-work periods. Their value comes mainly from daytime commuters rather than residents, so plan around time rather than population alone.
Shopping and tourist districts
Causeway Bay, Mong Kok and Tsim Sha Tsui suit retail, fashion, beauty, restaurants, entertainment, tourism, launches and seasonal campaigns. LED content stands out more in lower evening light, but brightness should be reduced to avoid overexposure.
Dense residential neighbourhoods
Kwun Tong, Sham Shui Po, Wong Tai Sin, Kowloon City and Yau Tsim Mong suit local services, openings and restaurant campaigns, reaching more residents within the same driving time. For narrower streets, consider adding a Mini promotional truck instead of forcing a large LED truck into unsuitable roads.
The New Territories and new towns
Sha Tin, Tsuen Wan, Tuen Mun, Yuen Long, Tai Po, North and Sai Kung cover larger areas, with residents concentrated around town centres, shopping centres, MTR stations and major estates. Target those centres rather than simply promising whole-district coverage. Multi-day campaigns can cover Kowloon East, Kowloon West and northern Hong Kong Island on separate days.
Touring and stopping require different arrangements
Bus stops, public light bus and taxi stands, expressways, tunnel areas, controlled areas, crossings and no-stopping zones may restrict stopping or loading. Core shopping districts generally suit mobile exposure. Stationary displays, distribution, sampling and interaction should use shopping centres, private premises, event venues or approved locations.
Population figures are taken from the Census and Statistics Department's 2024 district statistics and are used here only to explain campaign planning.

How are LED advertising truck rental costs calculated?
There is no single fixed price. Total expenditure usually includes:
Total cost = vehicle rental × days + LED content + on-site staff + extra equipment + overtime or extra journeys + venue and event arrangements.
Public market reference prices
These third-party public Hong Kong prices provide an initial budgeting reference. They are not PEAKVEIN quotations; actual costs follow the formal quote. They can help identify quotes that differ substantially from market references:
| Vehicle type, as classified in public sources | Daily reference price | Weekly / monthly reference price |
|---|---|---|
| LED mobile advertising truck | Approximately HK$4,900–HK$5,500 | About HK$35,000 weekly; HK$90,000 monthly |
| Standard mobile advertising vehicle | Approximately HK$5,500 | About HK$35,000 weekly; HK$105,000 monthly |
| Small mobile advertising vehicle | Approximately HK$4,500 | About HK$29,000 monthly |
Other public industry analyses place standard Hong Kong LED daily hire at around HK$2,500–HK$5,500, generally including a driver, basic fuel and tolls. Overtime is additional. Vehicle dimensions, screen specifications, hours and inclusions account for much of the nearly twofold price range.
Main factors affecting the quote
- Dates, weekdays or weekends, and peak holiday periods
- Rental days and usable daily hours
- Operating areas, harbour crossings and additional tunnel journeys
- Ordinary driving, slow tours or stationary events
- LED video and image creation or revisions
- Sound, power generation, displays or other equipment
- Promoters, supervisors, photography or event coordination
- Venue permission, sampling, performances or other event licences
Compare more than the daily rate
A day may mean eight or nine hours. Some suppliers offer eight hours within a 10 am–10 pm window; others offer nine hours from arrival at the target location. Overtime commonly costs around HK$200–HK$300 per hour. Confirm:
- Actual usable hours each day
- Whether charging starts at depot departure, arrival in the target area or playback
- Driver, fuel and tunnel-toll inclusions
- Overtime and extra-route charges
- Whether content production and on-site technical support cost extra
- Replacement hours or postponement arrangements for severe weather
These figures come from published Hong Kong rental-platform prices and public industry analyses. They are market references, not PEAKVEIN quotations.

Safety, compliance and event considerations
LED installations and vehicle modifications
Check structure, fixings, power, overall height and route access before adding screens, roof equipment, extendable stands, sound or other modifications. Transport Department guidance advises consulting the manufacturer or agent first and sets requirements for lights and additional fittings.
Keep views, lights, reflectors and number plates clear
All vehicle graphics and equipment must leave the driver's view, required lighting, reflectors and registration number unobstructed and must be securely installed.
Sound and noise
Vehicle audio must account for nearby homes, schools, shopping centres and night-time conditions. Under section 5(1)(b) of the Noise Control Ordinance (Cap. 400), amplification in domestic premises or public places is an offence at any time if its noise causes annoyance amounting to a nuisance; loudspeakers mounted on vehicles are also subject to this provision. Visual content should be the main communication method, with sound supporting only necessary event functions.
Venues and stopping
Obtain owner or management permission before entering shopping centres, private estates, hotels, schools or other private premises. Prime public-road shopping areas usually have strict parking restrictions; do not assume roadside stationary displays are permitted.
Sampling and performances
Reheating, cooking, food sales and public entertainment such as performances, music or screenings may require FEHD or other licences. FEHD's temporary public entertainment guide requires applications at least 42 days before events involving temporary structures, or 18 days before events without structures other than dance parties. These statutory deadlines often exceed vehicle production time, so confirm them before setting the event date.
Adverse weather
Ordinary rain may not prevent driving, but stationary events, distribution, stages and outdoor staff are more affected. Labour Department guidance advises supervisors to suspend outdoor work as soon as practicable and move staff in outdoor or exposed areas to shelter when an Amber, Red or Black Rainstorm Warning is issued during working hours. Agree contract terms for suspension, replacement hours, postponement and unfinished hours during tropical cyclone or rainstorm warnings and officially announced extreme conditions.
This information draws on public Transport Department, FEHD, Labour Department and Noise Control Ordinance materials. It is general information, not legal advice. Follow current official guidance and individual approval conditions for applicable requirements.

How can LED truck results be measured?
Level 1: delivery records
Check actual routes, hours, stop durations, playback content and photos or video. These establish whether the campaign followed the plan.
Level 2: on-site interaction
For giveaways, sampling, gifts or product experiences, count contacts, items distributed, participants and registrations.
Level 3: attributable conversions
Use dedicated screen QR codes, offer codes, short URLs, phone numbers or landing pages to measure scans, appointments, reservations, visits and sales. LED trucks have a particular advantage: two creatives with separate QR codes can run on the same day to compare responses directly.
Level 4: exposure estimates
Impressions can be estimated from route footfall, traffic and timing, but Hong Kong has no shared, publicly audited outdoor exposure standard. Figures from different suppliers cannot be compared meaningfully without knowing their methods.
Avoid recall figures with unclear sources
The online claim of 97% mobile billboard recall comes from overseas research around 2002, not current Hong Kong data, and should not be used as a performance promise. Trackable QR codes, offer codes, registrations and visits are more useful for most brands.

Common LED screen terminology
| Term | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Pixel pitch: the P value | Distance in millimetres between adjacent pixel centres. P3 is about 3 mm. Smaller values mean denser pixels and closer viewing. |
| Nits: cd/m² | A brightness unit. Outdoor full-daylight readability commonly targets around 5,000–7,000 nits. |
| 1:1 rule | Minimum viewing distance in metres is approximately equal to pitch in millimetres; around 3 m for P3. |
| Visual-acuity formula | Pitch × 3.44 gives the distance where normal vision cannot distinguish pixels; around 10.3 m for P3. |
| Canvas | The actual displayable pixel area. Design to this rather than physical dimensions. |
| Safe area | The screen-edge area that may be covered by its frame; keep important text and QR codes clear. |
| Contrast | The difference between the brightest and darkest parts of an image, often more important to strong-light readability than peak brightness. |
| DOOH | Digital out-of-home advertising, including fixed digital screens and mobile LED trucks. |
| Stationary display | A vehicle remains at an approved location for display or interaction, separately arranged from touring coverage. |
| CPM | Cost per thousand impressions. Outdoor estimation methods vary widely, so comparisons need a consistent basis. |
Frequently asked questions
What are the main specifications of PEAKVEIN's LED screen truck?
Published specifications are a P3 screen around 3.5 m × 1.8 m, approximately 6.3 m², with an aspect ratio around 1.94:1. P3 means about 3 mm between pixel centres, suitable for closer viewing on pedestrian streets, at entrances and around shopping centres. Since physical measurements are approximate, use the actual canvas, ratio and safe areas supplied for the booked vehicle before producing artwork.
What does P3 mean?
P stands for pixel pitch: the distance between neighbouring pixel centres, in millimetres. P3 means approximately 3 mm. Smaller pitch provides denser pixels and more detail for closer viewing; larger pitch suits greater distances.
What is the best viewing distance for a P3 LED screen?
Three common methods apply: the 1:1 rule gives a minimum distance in metres equal to pitch in millimetres, around 3 m for P3; the comfortable-viewing rule uses pitch × 1.5–2, giving 4.5–6 m for video; and the visual-acuity formula uses pitch × 3.44, giving 10.3 m where normal vision cannot distinguish individual pixels. In practice, the pixel grid is generally no longer visible beyond 3 m, with 4.5–6 m a comfortable range.
Is P3 clearer than P4 or P5?
At the same physical size and viewing distance, P3's finer pitch gives denser pixels and usually more close-range detail. It is not automatically better in every situation: beyond ten metres, the advantage may be less noticeable and extra cost less useful. Consider viewing distance, dimensions, actual pixels, brightness and budget together.
Why do street displays often use larger pitch, while P3 is considered fine pitch?
Fixed roadside digital screens are usually viewed from ten metres or more, with common pitches around 6.9–10.4 mm. Finer P3.9–P4.8 screens often serve closer surfaces such as shopfronts, bus shelters and entrances. P3 therefore favours nearby pedestrians and stationary viewing rather than fast movement at long distance.
How many pixels does a screen around 3.5 m × 1.8 m have?
At P3 pitch, the estimate is around 1,166 horizontal pixels, calculated as 3,500 ÷ 3, and 600 vertical pixels, 1,800 ÷ 3: around 700,000 total. This is approximately 111,000 pixels/m² across 6.3 m². These are calculated estimates, not rated vehicle specifications. Use the confirmed vehicle's actual delivery canvas.
Can I design directly in 1920 × 1080?
This is not recommended. The approximate 3.5 m × 1.8 m screen is 1.94:1, while 1920 × 1080 is 16:9 or 1.78:1, around 9% different. Scaling that content to 1,166 pixels wide gives about 656 pixels high, exceeding roughly 600 screen pixels. It must then be cropped or distorted. Obtain the actual canvas and safe areas first.
Is the LED screen readable during the day?
Outdoor LEDs need enough brightness to compete with daylight. Industry and field-testing guidance suggests around 5,000–7,000 nits in full sun, 3,500–5,000 in shade or north-facing positions, and potentially 8,000–10,000 in strong direct sunlight. Below about 4,000 nits, noon light can wash out the image. Each PEAKVEIN vehicle's actual rating and adjustments follow its equipment specifications and on-site tests.
Why is contrast sometimes more important than brightness?
Under strong light, the difference between light and dark determines readability, rather than peak brightness alone. On the same 6,000-nit screen, light text against a dark background is clearer than white on pale grey. Hardware and content must be considered together; a higher brightness rating alone cannot solve poor legibility.
Should brightness be at maximum at night?
No. Maximum night brightness can wash out images, lose detail, distort colour and unnecessarily distract other road users. Adjust brightness and contrast to ambient light, and test images, text and colour separately by day and at night.
Can an LED advertising truck play video?
Yes. It can show brand films, demonstrations, previews, animation, seasonal content, countdowns, static images and text. MP4 and JPEG are common delivery formats; prepare codecs, pixels, ratio, frame rate and size to the booked vehicle's specifications. Clips can typically run around 10–30 seconds before looping, according to the campaign.
Can content be changed on the day?
Files can be changed according to the campaign arrangement, without reprinting vehicle graphics. Show countdowns before an event, official information on the day and availability or continuing offers afterwards. Can several content sets play on the same day?
Yes. Restaurants might show lunch sets, afternoon light meals and evening signature dishes or group offers at different times. Separate QR codes or offer codes can compare scans and visits for each message, enabling an outdoor A/B test.
Should QR codes appear on LED screens?
It depends on the setting. Fast-moving vehicles may not allow enough scanning time; slow routes or stationary displays work better. Make codes large, leave clear space and keep animation away from them. While moving, favour the brand, a memorable offer code or short URL. Test scanning with different phones and distances before deployment.
How should I prepare LED truck artwork?
Obtain the actual pixel canvas, ratio, formats, codec, frame rate, size limit and safe areas first. Use large text, strong contrast and one message per screen. Keep the brand, date, phone and QR code still. Re-edit video into a short outdoor version rather than reusing social or television content unchanged.
How large should the text be?
Key text should be recognisable around ten metres away. A phone preview only centimetres from your eyes is misleading. Print or project the design at the screen's proportions, step back 5–6 metres and check whether the message can be read at a glance. Simplify it if not.
Which industries suit LED advertising trucks?
They suit campaigns needing moving content, night impact or updated information: retail, restaurants, fashion, beauty, finance, insurance, property, technology, apps, games, launches, openings, seasonal offers, concerts, sport, exhibitions, recruitment, education, charities and major brands. Choose the vehicle and route around the audience, viewing distance and venue.
How do I choose between LED and conventional vehicle graphics?
Choose LED for changing content, multiple campaign stages, dates within two weeks or night-time impact. Conventional graphics often cost less per day for a fixed message used over weeks or months, or large photographs without pixel limitations, because printing is an upfront cost. The two can also be combined.
Is LED faster when the event is soon?
Usually. Public market information gives around 14 days for printing and fitting stickers, with design and revisions often bringing total lead time to three to five weeks. LED needs compliant MP4 or JPEG files and can be much faster if a vehicle is available. Venue, performance, sampling and licensing deadlines still apply.
Which Hong Kong areas can LED trucks cover?
All 18 administrative districts across Hong Kong Island, Kowloon and the New Territories. Plan around audience, shopping and residential areas, footfall timing, roads and stopping restrictions rather than district count alone. Core business areas generally suit mobile exposure; stationary displays need lawful, suitable venues.
Which areas are best for LED truck campaigns?
It depends on the audience. Official 2024 figures put the largest populations in Sha Tin at around 704,000, Yuen Long at 677,000 and Kwun Tong at 668,000. The highest densities were Kwun Tong at around 59,000/km², Sham Shui Po at 47,000/km² and Wong Tai Sin at 44,000/km². Dense areas offer access to more residents over shorter routes. Central, Admiralty and Wan Chai derive value from daytime commuters, making timing more important.
Can an LED truck park outside a shopping centre or event venue?
It depends on the location. Public bus stops, minibus and taxi stands, expressways, tunnel and controlled areas, crossings and no-stopping zones may prohibit stops. Shopping centres, private estates, hotels and other private sites require prior owner or management approval. Use shop premises, private sites, event venues or approved locations for stationary displays.
What is the difference between touring and stationary display?
Touring provides broad reach and repeated exposure. Stationary displays allow time, interaction and conversion through scans, distribution and trials. P3's close-viewing detail is particularly useful when stopped. Most successful campaigns combine both.
Can an LED truck play music or use amplification?
Sound can be arranged as needed, with volume appropriate to homes, schools, shopping centres and night conditions. Under section 5(1)(b) of the Noise Control Ordinance (Cap. 400), amplification in domestic premises or public places is an offence at any time if it causes annoyance amounting to a nuisance. Vehicle speakers are included. Prioritise visual communication, using sound only when necessary.
Are LED installations covered by vehicle modification rules?
Yes. Check structure, fixings, total height and route access before changes to screens, roof equipment, stands, sound or power. Transport Department guidance advises consulting the manufacturer or agent first. Graphics and equipment must not obstruct the driver's view, required lights, reflectors or registration number.
How are LED truck rental fees calculated?
Pricing depends on dates, vehicle, days, hours, routes, harbour crossings, content, equipment, staff, venue and event requirements. Total cost is rental × days, plus LED content, staff, extra equipment, overtime or extra journeys, and venue or event arrangements. Compare usable daily hours and inclusions alongside the daily rate.
What are Hong Kong market reference prices for LED trucks?
Published rental-platform prices list LED trucks at around HK$4,900–HK$5,500 daily, HK$35,000 weekly and HK$90,000 monthly; standard vehicles at HK$5,500 daily and HK$105,000 monthly; and small vehicles at HK$4,500 daily. Other public analyses give standard LED hire as HK$2,500–HK$5,500 daily, generally including a driver, basic fuel and tolls. These are market references, not PEAKVEIN prices. The formal quote determines actual costs.
How many hours are included in an advertising truck “day”?
The market uses at least two definitions: eight hours within a 10 am–10 pm window, or nine hours starting when the vehicle reaches the target location. Overtime commonly costs around HK$200–HK$300 hourly. Compare usable hours carefully, as identical daily prices can represent different amounts of service.
How far ahead should an LED screen truck be booked?
Allow at least one week, and longer for Lunar New Year, Christmas, major exhibitions, concerts and peak periods. LED-only playback needs compliant content and is more flexible than printed graphics. Venues, performances, sampling, promoters or licences require more time; public entertainment with temporary structures needs applications at least 42 days ahead.
What happens during a typhoon or heavy rain?
Agree weather terms in the contract. Labour Department guidance advises supervisors to suspend outdoor work as soon as practicable and move staff to shelter when an Amber, Red or Black Rainstorm Warning is issued during working hours. Common arrangements include suspending routes, replacement hours or rescheduling. Confirm the details with the quotation.
How can LED truck results be measured?
Use four levels: delivery records such as routes, times, stops and photos; on-site data such as distribution, sampling, participation and scans; attributable conversions from dedicated QR codes, offers, short URLs, registrations or reservations; and finally estimated impressions and CPM. Without a shared publicly audited Hong Kong exposure standard, tracked conversions are generally more reliable than exposure estimates alone.
Is the online 97% advertising-vehicle recall claim reliable?
It should not be quoted directly. It comes from overseas research around 2002, with a different market, media environment and methodology, and cannot be verified here. Build benchmarks from your own QR codes, offer codes and visits instead of relying on an untraceable percentage.
