Explore 25 guides covering hire prices, LED specifications, vehicle comparisons, routes across all 18 districts, licensing, graphics production and measurement—the information Hong Kong brands need to plan mobile campaigns.
Mobile promotional vehicles, also called advertising trucks or mobile billboards, use vehicle graphics or onboard LED screens to carry brand messages along selected routes, at chosen times and through stationary events near target audiences.
The difference from fixed billboards goes beyond movement. Mobile vehicles let brands decide where to go, when to appear, what to show and whether to include distribution or interaction. Plan vehicle, route, content, duration and measurement together.
Different terminology can make first-time customers think they are comparing unrelated products. In Hong Kong, these names mostly describe the same service family or its subtypes:

These articles answer one central question: how do you decide what you need without knowing industry terminology? They break the broad advertising-vehicle concept into five decisions: vehicle, display medium, route, duration and measurement.
After these four guides, you should know where your audience is, whether content must change and whether on-site staff are needed. These answers largely determine vehicle choice and budget.

Pricing
Quotations are difficult to compare partly because there is no single definition of “one day”. Some suppliers offer eight hours within 10 am–10 pm; others allow nine hours from arrival at the target location. Typical overtime is HK$200–300 per hour. The service behind an identical HK$5,000 daily rate can differ by more than 10%.
The following third-party Hong Kong prices help assess whether a quotation is broadly in line with the market. They are not PEAKVEIN quotations; actual charges follow the formal quotation.
| Vehicle type, as classified in public sources | Daily reference price | Weekly / monthly reference price |
|---|---|---|
| LED mobile advertising truck | Approximately HK$4,900–HK$5,500 | About HK$35,000 weekly; HK$90,000 monthly |
| Standard mobile advertising vehicle | Approximately HK$5,500 | About HK$35,000 weekly; HK$105,000 monthly |
| Small mobile advertising vehicle | Approximately HK$4,500 | About HK$29,000 monthly |
| Character-themed mobile advertising vehicle | Approximately HK$4,900 | About HK$32,585 monthly |
| Food truck | Approximately HK$4,000 | About HK$24,500 monthly |
Other public industry analysis places standard Hong Kong LED truck hire at around HK$2,500–5,500 per day, usually including a driver, basic fuel and tunnel tolls, with overtime charged separately. Vehicle size, screen specifications, hours and inclusions explain the large variation.
These figures come from published Hong Kong rental-platform prices and public industry analyses. They are market references, not PEAKVEIN quotations.

Routes & Districts
“All 18 districts” sounds comprehensive, but administrative boundaries are not a campaign strategy. Residential populations, commuters, street scale and parking differ; broad coverage does not guarantee effective coverage。
Census and Statistics Department figures for 2024 show the largest populations in Sha Tin, at around 704,000, followed by Yuen Long, at around 677,000 and Kwun Tong, at around 668,000. For population density by land area, Kwun Tong was the highest at around 59,000 people per square kilometre, followed by Sham Shui Po at about 47,000 people/km² and Wong Tai Sin at 44,000. Islands, Tai Po and North District have lower densities.
| Data perspective | Relevant areas, 2024 | Campaign implications |
|---|---|---|
| Largest populations | Sha Tin about 704,000; Yuen Long 677,000; Kwun Tong 668,000 | Suitable for resident-focused campaigns. In the larger New Territories districts, concentrate on town centres rather than covering the entire area evenly. |
| Highest population densities | Kwun Tong: about 59,000/km²; Sham Shui Po: about 47,000/km²; Wong Tai Sin: about 44,000/km² | More residents can be reached within the same driving time, suiting openings, food, local services and distribution. |
| Lower population densities | Islands, Tai Po and North | Better suited to destination, tourism, seasonal or venue-specific events than broad population coverage. |
| Footfall beyond resident populations | Core business areas in Central and Western, Wan Chai and Yau Tsim Mong | Value comes from daytime commuters, office workers and shoppers; plan by time of day rather than residential population. |
Population figures are taken from the Census and Statistics Department's 2024 district statistics and are used here only to explain campaign planning.
Driving brings coverage and repetition; stopping brings dwell time, interaction and conversion. Parking restrictions in commercial districts, transport stops, tunnels, controlled areas and no-stopping zones often prevent long stays. A practical approach is to host stationary activities at shops, shopping centres, private venues or approved locations, using streets for driving coverage. Most effective campaigns combine both.

Production & Technology
Production is vulnerable to delays for two reasons: unpredictable revision rounds and minimum physical printing and application time. Market information suggests around 14 days for printing and installation. With design and revisions, production often takes one or two weeks longer than expected.
With a fixed event date, work backwards:
Graphics and added equipment must be securely installed without obstructing visibility, mandatory lights, reflectors or registration marks. LED performance depends on brightness in nits, pixel pitch, resolution and viewing distance, not diagonal size alone. Smaller pitch supports closer viewing on pedestrian streets; larger pitch suits longer distances and faster roads.

Campaign Planning
The same vehicle needs different routes, times and content for openings, food, launches and property campaigns. These guides address when to deploy, for how many days and at what hours in practical schedules.
| Scenario | Key time window | Related guide |
|---|---|---|
| Store openings | Awareness the day before opening, conversion on opening day and reach during the first weekend | Three-day visitor-attraction schedule |
| Restaurant traffic | Decision windows before lunch, afternoon tea, dinner and late-night dining | Restaurant Promotion Strategies |
| Product launch | Three phases: pre-launch, launch day and follow-up | The complete launch plan |
| Seasonal promotions | Work backwards from holidays to production deadlines and peak-season availability | Seasonal Campaign Schedules |
| Property launches and major events | Sales-document timing, sales-day promotion and stage-event licensing | Property and event promotion |
One common issue is that product embargoes can conflict with vehicle production deadlines: stickers need completion about two weeks before the event while product details remain confidential. Put changing content on LED and non-confidential brand elements on the body.

Compliance & Measurement
Roads, venues, sound, food and event licences involve different authorities and deadlines. Check these three frequently decisive requirements before confirming dates.
| Regulated area | Core requirement | Authority / basis |
|---|---|---|
| Vehicle-mounted amplification | Amplified sound in domestic premises or public places at any time is an offence if it causes annoyance amounting to a nuisance; vehicle-mounted speakers are also covered | Noise Control Ordinance (Cap. 400), section 5(1)(b) |
| Public-entertainment licensing | Apply at least 42 days ahead with temporary structures; 18 days without structures for non-dance events; seven working days for dance parties without structures. Submit FEHB104 and four sets of plans, or five for lasers. | FEHD · Temporary Places of Public Entertainment Licence (TPPE) |
| Advertising on other vehicle types | Taxi exterior and interior advertising has specific approval criteria, permitted positions and no protrusions. Public light bus and non-franchised bus adverts require prior written approval. | Transport Department |
This information comes from the Noise Control Ordinance, FEHD and Transport Department publications and is general reference, not legal advice. Follow current official requirements and individual approval conditions.
Hong Kong lacks a common public outdoor-exposure audit standard, making estimated exposure the weakest evidence. Build measurement in this order:
Treat older industry studies carefully. The often-quoted “97% message recall” figure comes from a US study around 2002, with a different period, market and method from today's Hong Kong.
Booking, routes, drivers, operators, quotations, staff, weather and reporting explained.

No. They mainly come from published market prices to explain costs, compare options and guide budgets. PEAKVEIN quotes separately according to dates, duration, vehicle, hours, areas, graphics, LED content, staff, venues and other services.
Published rental-platform rates show LED trucks at about HK$4,900–5,500 daily, HK$35,000 weekly or HK$90,000 monthly; standard advertising vehicles at HK$5,500 daily or HK$105,000 monthly; and small vehicles at HK$4,500 daily or HK$29,000 monthly. Other analysis places standard LED hire at HK$2,500–5,500 daily, usually including driver, basic fuel and tolls. These are market references, not PEAKVEIN quotations.
There are at least two approaches in the market: some suppliers specify 8 hours per day within a 10am–10pm window, while others specify 9 hours from arrival at the target location. Overtime commonly costs around HK$200–300 per hour. Compare the actual hours available, as the same daily rate can represent very different levels of service.
There is no single answer. In 2024, the largest populations were Sha Tin at about 704,000, Yuen Long at 677,000 and Kwun Tong at 668,000. Highest densities were Kwun Tong at 59,000 people/km², Sham Shui Po at 47,000 and Wong Tai Sin at 44,000. Business, finance and B2B brands can target lunch and evening commutes in Central, Admiralty, Wan Chai and Kowloon East. Retail, food and entertainment can consider Causeway Bay, Tsim Sha Tsui and Mong Kok; local services can assess Kwun Tong, Sham Shui Po, Wong Tai Sin and Kowloon City.
LED suits video, evening impact, visibility at a distance, countdowns and same-day updates. Mini trucks suit estates, older districts, narrow streets, distribution, sampling and local promotions. Combine them for broad awareness and neighbourhood outreach.
Market information suggests about 14 days for printing and installation, or three to five weeks including design and revisions. Work backwards: print and begin application 14 days ahead, finalise artwork 21–28 days ahead and start design and template confirmation 35 days ahead.
Exercise particular care. Section 5(1)(b) of the Noise Control Ordinance (Cap. 400) makes it an offence to use loudspeakers, megaphones or other amplification devices at any time in domestic premises or public places in a way that causes annoyance amounting to a nuisance. Vehicle-mounted loudspeakers are covered by the same provision. Focus on visual content, routes and lawful stationary arrangements, and avoid amplification in residential areas at night.
An FEHD Temporary Places of Public Entertainment Licence may be needed. Apply at least 42 days ahead with structures; 18 days without structures for non-dance events; or seven working days for dance parties without structures. Submit FEHB104 and four sets of plans, or five for lasers. This deadline often sets the start of stage-event planning.
Driving and stationary display are different arrangements. Parking restrictions apply in major commercial areas, at bus, public light bus and taxi stands, in tunnel areas, controlled areas and no-stopping zones; extended stops are often impractical. Tastings, distribution, displays and interaction are better arranged within store premises, malls, private property, event venues or approved locations, with public streets used for driving coverage.
No. Taxi exterior and interior adverts have specific approval criteria, permitted positions and restrictions on protrusions. Public light bus and non-franchised bus adverts require prior written Transport Department approval and compliance with its conditions. Check each medium's requirements separately.
Use four levels: execution records such as routes, times, stops and photos; on-site samples, handouts, participation and scans; attribution via dedicated QR codes, discounts, links, bookings or registration; then footfall-based exposure and CPM estimates. Trackable conversions are generally more reliable than exposure estimates without a shared public audit standard.
It comes from a US study around 2002 with a different market, media environment and methodology. Treating old overseas research as a local performance promise is inaccurate and unverifiable. Build checkable benchmarks using your own QR, discount-code and store-visit data.
Usually, because design, printing and application are one-off costs spread over more days. Monthly hire often costs much less per day for sustained visibility. A short hire is more appropriate when only one event day needs promotion.
Yes. Prices, legal deadlines, statistics and market practices are reviewed when official information or conditions change materially. Check the latest official announcements before final decisions.
