Mini Promotional Truck Rental, Solar-Powered Advertising and Community Sampling
Compact vehicles for narrow streets and older districts, with solar power, a maximum load of up to 1000 kg and Wi-Fi, supporting community campaigns, distribution, openings and short tours.
Vehicle Specification
Current mini promotional truck specifications
- Power: Solar power equipment fitted
- Load capacity: Maximum load of up to 1000 kg
- Connectivity: Wi-Fi available
- Body: Compact vehicle suited to narrow streets and restricted spaces
- Branding: Custom printed vehicle graphics and stickers
The 1000 kg figure is a maximum load limit. Actual available payload must account for equipment, supplies, packaging and personnel, within registration and legal limits. Solar output depends on sunlight, weather, season, position and consumption. Confirm a separate power plan where reliable electricity is essential.
A 1,000 kg rating does not mean 1,000 kg of available cargo
This common quotation-stage misunderstanding can determine whether an event can proceed as planned. The maximum 1000 kg specification is not the amount of goods you can necessarily load.
The correct calculation
Registration documents state permitted gross vehicle weight, the legal limit including goods, fuel and passengers, and unladen weight. Broadly:
Available payload = permitted gross vehicle weight − unladen weight − fuel − driver and accompanying staff − existing equipment
Solar panels, batteries, sound, display stands, a driver and two distribution staff can leave considerably less than 1,000 kg for supplies. Plan using net available payload and allow a safety margin.
Check printed-material weight yourself
Printing weight is often underestimated but can be calculated accurately:
Weight per sheet in grams = area in square metres × paper weight in gsm
A4 measures 210 × 297 mm, or about 0.0624 m². This gives:
| Printed item | Paper weight | Weight per sheet | Weight of 5,000 sheets |
|---|---|---|---|
| A4 leaflet | 128 gsm | Approximately 8 g | Approximately 40 kg |
| A4 leaflet | 157 gsm | Approximately 10 g | Approximately 49 kg |
| A4 leaflet | 200 gsm | Approximately 12.5 g | Approximately 62 kg |
| A5 leaflet | 128 gsm | Approximately 4 g | Approximately 20 kg |
Practical implication: 20,000 A4 leaflets at 128 gsm weigh about 160 kg before cartons. Large distribution campaigns therefore often need restocking trips; the mini truck's capacity helps reduce them.
Typical supply weights
| Supply | Approximate weight | Planning notes |
|---|---|---|
| A4 leaflets, 128 gsm | Around 40 kg per 5,000 sheets | Calculate from area and gsm rather than guessing |
| Bottled water or drinks | Around 12–13 kg per case of 24 × 500 ml bottles | A major source of weight in drink-sampling campaigns |
| Gifts and giveaways | Depends on packaging | Packaging can account for more weight and volume than its contents |
| Pull-up stands and backdrops | From several kilograms each | Secure them; public displays have legal restrictions discussed below |
| Tables, chairs and stall materials | Several to tens of kilograms each | Allow loading time and staff |
| Electronic equipment | Depends on the equipment | Provide impact and water protection |
| Cartons and packaging | Several hundred grams to several kilograms per carton | Accumulated weight can be substantial for bulk distribution |
Secure all supplies within the vehicle without obstructing the driver's view or compromising safety, and comply with payload and legal limits.
Paper weights are theoretical calculations from standard area and gsm; stock, coatings and trim sizes cause variations. The individual registration documents determine gross weight, unladen weight and payload.
What is a mini promotional truck?
A smaller mobile advertising vehicle, also called a mini advertising truck, small promotional vehicle or advertising van. Its strengths are access, practical stopping and quick movement in older streets, estates, school surroundings, shopping-centre back lanes and narrow roads that larger trucks struggle to reach.
In Hong Kong, results often depend less on vehicle size than on appearing precisely where the intended audience passes each day. For restaurants, clinics, tutoring centres, gyms, estate-agency branches and retail stores, this local precision is often more useful than a larger truck.

How do the three main specifications affect planning?
Solar power equipment
Solar equipment can reduce prolonged idling and the need for a separate generator. It best suits sunny outdoor daytime uses with low demand, such as small devices, lights or simple playback.
Weather, season, shade and orientation affect output; cloudy days, rain, indoor parking and high-power devices need another plan. The Hong Kong Observatory provides open district weather data on global, direct and diffuse solar radiation, updated every ten minutes, which can indicate general sunlight conditions for power-sensitive activities.
In practice, treat solar as supplementary power for low-consumption lights, charging or small playback devices. Registration tablets, payment terminals and essential video should also have vehicle or backup power.
Maximum load of 1000 kg
This capacity lets the mini truck carry campaign supplies as well as advertise. A practical advantage over an LED truck is that one vehicle handles both exposure and logistics, reducing separate van hire and restocking trips. See the payload calculations and supply weights above.
Wi-Fi available
Wi-Fi supports live registrations, questionnaires, tablets and content updates, turning contact into trackable data. Speed depends on coverage, buildings and simultaneous users. Test the site and provide backups, such as offline registration forms, for high-volume sign-ups or live streaming.
Collecting personal data for later marketing requires compliance with the Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance's direct-marketing rules: explain the intended use, data types and marketing subjects and obtain consent. See the compliance section on the Mobile showroom truck page.
Use Cases
Which events suit mini promotional trucks?
Store openings
Tour streets around a new store and distribute opening offers to bring nearby residents in. See The Three-Day Store Opening Plan。
Community and estate promotion
Reach older streets and estate surroundings inaccessible to larger vehicles, with frequent local exposure.
Restaurant takeaway and dine-in promotion
Tour office and residential areas around lunch and dinner, distributing offer codes. See Restaurant Promotion Strategies。
Distribution and sampling
The 1000 kg capacity supports carrying leaflets, samples and gifts together, reducing restocking journeys.
Education and course enrolment
Tour school, tutoring and residential areas at arrival and dismissal times with registration QR codes. Do not park at or near school entrances.
Clinics and professional services
Target streets and estates within the service area, ensuring content meets relevant professional rules.
Estate agencies and property campaigns
Tour target communities and branches. First-hand residential advertising needs statutory statements under the Residential Properties (First-hand Sales) Ordinance, checked by the vendor's compliance team.
Retail sales and seasonal campaigns
Short tours and distribution support holidays, end-of-season sales and limited offers to clear stock or attract visitors. See Seasonal Campaign Schedules。
Exhibition and event support
Transport supplies, replenish stock and direct visitors to the main exhibition or stage truck.
Non-profit and charity campaigns
Regular routes build recognition for community education, volunteer recruitment and services.
Recruitment events
Tour industrial areas at lunch or transport hubs, distributing vacancies with QR applications.
Apps, games and digital products
Distribute download offer codes near campuses and younger neighbourhoods, using Wi-Fi to assist installation on site.
Overall coordination, staffing and materials can be handled by our Event production team; for vehicle comparisons, see Five Vehicle Types Compared: A Selection Guide。
Planning routes and timing
Define the audience before the route
Map commuting, lunch areas, school dismissal, shopping times and homeward routes, rather than targeting busy places without a clear audience.
Choose districts using official data
According to the Census and Statistics Department's 2024 district population figures, the largest population was in Sha Tin, at around 704,000, followed by Yuen Long, at around 677,000 and Kwun Tong, at around 668,000. By population density per unit of land area, Kwun Tong was the densest, at approximately 59,000 people per square kilometre, followed by Sham Shui Po at around 47,000 and Wong Tai Sin at around 44,000. Lower-density areas included Islands, Tai Po and North.
This is particularly relevant to mini trucks.Their advantage is route efficiency: dense areas offer more resident contact and distribution within the same hours. In large, dispersed districts, more time goes on travel rather than engagement.
Repetition beats a single pass
Repeat appearances in one area usually work better than one tour across Hong Kong. Fixed routes and times build familiarity: residents seeing the same vehicle three or four times are more likely to remember it than after one visit.
Choosing operating times
- Morning commute: stations, main pedestrian routes and office entrances
- Lunch: office areas and restaurant clusters
- School dismissal: school surroundings and tutoring streets
- After work and evening: homes, shopping centres and supermarkets
- Weekends: family shopping areas, estate malls and community facilities
Reduce unproductive travel
Congested roads, tunnels and high-speed sections have traffic but little pedestrian contact and generally should not count as effective coverage. Prioritise streets where people clearly see the vehicle. With eight to nine available hours, two hours of return harbour travel remove roughly a quarter of useful contact time.Focus on adjacent areas and spread cross-district travel over separate days.
Population figures are taken from the Census and Statistics Department's 2024 district statistics and are used here only to explain campaign planning.
For detailed methods, read Routes, Timing and Coverage Strategies and our campaign guide to all 18 districts。
Vehicle design principles
A smaller body needs greater restraint
Limited surface area makes information overload particularly unhelpful. A stronger combination is the brand, one main benefit, one action and a large clear QR code or short URL。
Design priorities
- Large text, recognisable at a distance
- Strong contrast; avoid pale colours together
- Fewer decorative details and dense text
- Clear hierarchy: brand first, benefit second
- Clear space around QR codes and on-site scanning tests
- Short, memorable phone numbers and URLs
A moving QR code may be difficult to scan
Passers-by rarely have time to focus on a moving vehicle. A more practical approach is to put a memorable short URL or offer code on the vehicle, with QR codes on distributed leaflets. Having distribution staff is an advantage over vehicles providing exposure alone.
Regulatory limits
Graphics must not obscure the driver's view, lights, reflectors or registration number, or resemble traffic signs or emergency vehicles. For added equipment or structural changes, public guidance advises consulting the manufacturer or agent and insurance representative first, ensuring compliance with the Road Traffic Ordinance (Cap. 374) and Construction and Maintenance Regulations (Cap. 374A), then applying to the Transport Department's Vehicle Safety and Standards Division. Changes can affect insurance cover.
Production lead time
Market information suggests around 14 days for printing and fitting. Including design and revisions, overall lead time is usually three to five weeks. Work backwards: printing completed and fitting started 14 days before; artwork approved 21–28 days before; design and vehicle layouts begun 35 days before.
For production schedules and processes, see The complete advertising truck production process。
Legal risks for distribution activities
This is a common problem area that suppliers may not explain proactively.Distribution itself generally needs no licence, but its effects and the placement of promotional materials fall under fixed-penalty rules.
Three fixed penalties relevant to distribution
Amendments to the Fixed Penalty (Public Cleanliness and Obstruction) Ordinance (Cap. 570) took effect on 22 October 2023. Relevant penalties are:
| Offence | Fixed penalty | Connection with distribution |
|---|---|---|
| Littering in public places | HK$3,000 | Discarded leaflets or packaging in the street |
| Unauthorised bills or posters | HK$3,000 | Public placement of pull-up stands, boards or promotional materials |
| Shopfront obstruction, unlawful construction-waste or bulk-waste disposal | HK$6,000 | Supplies, cartons or equipment obstructing the pavement |
Police, FEHD, the Environmental Protection Department, Leisure and Cultural Services Department, Housing Department, Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department and Marine Department are empowered to issue fixed-penalty notices.
Pull-up stands are an easily overlooked risk
Brands often place two stands beside a distribution point, but should note: Since March 2011, FEHD has used Cap. 570 fixed-penalty notices for unauthorised promotional displays in public places, including pull-up stands. The penalty is now HK$3,000.
Practical recommendations:
- Keep pull-up stands and display boards within private venues, shop premises or approved locations; do not place them on pavements without permission.
- Distribute materials by hand in public places and use the vehicle itself as the visual display, rather than adding freestanding items on the ground.
- If you need to display promotional materials in a public place, first check whether permission is required and available.
Five ways to reduce littering
- Give people something worth keeping.Pure advertising leaflets are easily discarded; redemption vouchers, discount cards and samples are much more likely to be retained.
- Do not force materials on people who do not want them.Unwanted handouts are more likely to be discarded and to prompt complaints.
- Provide recycling or waste arrangements near the distribution point.Assign staff to inspect and clean the surrounding area regularly.
- Limit the quantity distributed at any one time.Replenish stock across several sessions rather than handing everything out at once and creating large amounts of waste.
- Keep supplies off the ground.Leave cartons and reserve stock on the vehicle instead of obstructing the pavement.
Distribution on private premises
For distribution in shopping centres, housing estates, hotels, schools or other private premises, obtain management approval first. Confirm the location, hours, staffing, storage and cleaning arrangements. Unauthorised activity may be stopped immediately and staff asked to leave.
The fixed-penalty information above comes from the Fixed Penalty (Public Cleanliness and Obstruction) Ordinance (Cap. 570) and published government and Food and Environmental Hygiene Department information. It is general information, not legal advice. Penalties, scheduled offences and enforcement arrangements may change; consult the latest government announcements.
Rules on road use, parking and noise
Driving and parking
Advertising vehicles must comply with ordinary road traffic rules. They may not stop at will at bus, minibus or taxi stops, pedestrian crossings, expressways, tunnels, controlled areas or no-stopping zones.Extended roadside stops in major commercial districts are generally impractical; arrange stationary activities on private premises, within shop boundaries or at approved locations.
Using sound equipment
If amplification is used, control the volume and operating hours and avoid disturbing homes, schools and hospitals. Under section 5(1)(b) of the Noise Control Ordinance (Cap. 400), using a loudspeaker, megaphone or other sound-amplifying device at any time in domestic premises or a public place is an offence if the noise causes annoyance amounting to a nuisance to any person. Vehicle-mounted loudspeakers are also covered.
This is particularly relevant to mini promotional trucks operating around residential areas and schools. Prioritise visual communication and staff interaction, with sound as a light supporting element. As a reference for operating hours, election activity guidelines also prohibit loudspeakers between 9 pm and 9 am.
Food-related activities
Reheating, cooking or selling food may require a Temporary Food Factory Licence under FEHD guidance. The licence lasts no more than seven days and costs HK$220. Submit form FEHB 201A for individuals or FEHB 201B for companies, with proposed layout plans, at least 12 working days before the intended start date.
Staffing and employees' compensation insurance
Distribution activities require staff. Under section 40 of the Employees' Compensation Ordinance (Cap. 282), all employers must obtain employees' compensation insurance before employing anyone, regardless of contract length, working hours or full-time or part-time status. Failure to do so carries a maximum penalty on conviction of HK$100,000 and two years' imprisonment. If staff come from a third-party supplier, request evidence of valid insurance.
Adverse weather
The Labour Department's Code of Practice in Times of Adverse Weather and “Extreme Conditions” advises supervisors to suspend outdoor work as soon as practicable and arrange safe shelter when an Amber, Red or Black Rainstorm Warning is issued during working hours. Driving may generally continue, but outdoor distribution, staff and paper materials are more vulnerable. Contracts should specify make-up time, postponement and refund arrangements.
The information above is drawn from the Noise Control Ordinance, the Employees' Compensation Ordinance and published FEHD and Labour Department guidance. It is general information and does not constitute legal advice.
For more rules, see Twenty frequently asked questions about mobile promotional vehicles。
How are mini promotional truck costs calculated?
Total cost = vehicle hire + number of days and daily hours + vehicle graphics and production + route and driver arrangements + distribution staff + transport of supplies + overtime, fuel and tunnel tolls + adverse-weather contingency.
Main factors affecting the quote
- Event date, including weekday, weekend, holiday and peak-season differences
- Number of days, daily hours and route length
- Cross-district travel, harbour crossings and multi-stop tours
- Vehicle graphics, stickers, pull-up stands and printed materials
- Promoters, distribution staff and event supervisors
- Supply weight, loading time and storage arrangements
- Additional power or sound equipment
- Sampling activities and venue approvals
- Overtime, delays, rescheduling and weather arrangements
Public market reference prices
Published prices on Hong Kong rental platforms indicate around HK$4,500 per day or HK$29,000 per month for a small mobile advertising vehicle; around HK$5,500 per day or HK$105,000 per month for a standard mobile advertising vehicle; and around HK$4,900–5,500 per day, HK$35,000 per week or HK$90,000 per month for an LED advertising vehicle. These are market references, not PEAKVEIN quotations.
Why longer hires have a much lower average daily cost
Because vehicle graphics are an upfront production cost. Design, printing and application costs arise whether you hire for one day or a month, so a longer hire spreads them over more days. Mini promotional trucks are particularly suited to longer campaigns: local businesses benefit from a consistent presence in the same neighbourhood, and the average daily cost can be a fraction of a short hire.
What to compare in quotations
Confirm actual daily driving and display hours, whether the driver and fuel are included, whether production is charged separately and how overtime is calculated. “One day” can mean different things: some suppliers provide eight hours within 10 am–10 pm; others provide nine hours from arrival at the target location. Typical overtime charges are around HK$200–300 per hour.
Another consideration: mini trucks usually cost less per day than large LED trucks, but extensive staffing and printed materials can become the largest cost items.Compare the full cost breakdown, rather than vehicle hire alone.
The prices above come from published Hong Kong rental-platform rates and industry analysis. They are market references, not PEAKVEIN quotations.
For pricing methods, see Complete cost guide、Daily, weekly and monthly hire comparison and When short-term and long-term hire make sense。
How can results be measured?
- Execution records: Routes, times, driving hours, stopping points and on-site photos
- Distribution data: Actual quantities of leaflets, samples and gifts handed out
- Digital attribution: Dedicated QR codes, discount codes, short links and registration pages
- Store conversions: Voucher redemptions, registrations, appointments and orders
- Area comparison: Differences in scans and conversions for the same content across neighbourhoods
A distinctive advantage: calculating cost per handout
This is a major measurement advantage over other vehicle formats. Distribution quantities can be counted and discount codes tracked, so you can calculate the actual cost per item distributed and cost per store visitor, rather than estimating exposure.
For example, if a one-day campaign costs HK$8,000, distributes 3,000 vouchers and generates 90 redemptions, the cost is about HK$2.7 per handout and HK$89 per store visitor. These figures can be compared directly with other channels and help decide which areas deserve more investment next time.
Compare areas and improve each round
Use a different discount code for each area to identify the highest response rate after the campaign. Concentrating the second round on the best two or three areas can improve results substantially—a form of iterative optimisation that fixed billboards cannot offer.
Avoid industry figures with unclear sources
Hong Kong has no publicly audited outdoor-advertising exposure standard shared across the industry. Use countable measures such as handouts, scans and store conversions for mini truck campaigns. The often-quoted “97% mobile advertising recall rate” comes from an overseas study around 2002 and should not be presented as a performance promise.
For examples, see Public case studies and performance measurement。

Mini promotional truck FAQs
What is a mini promotional truck?
It is a smaller mobile advertising vehicle, also known as a mini advertising truck or advertising van. Its advantages include access to narrow streets, older districts and areas around housing estates, while carrying campaign supplies for neighbourhood promotions and distribution.
What equipment is provided?
Confirmed specifications include a solar-power system, a maximum load of up to 1,000 kg and Wi-Fi. Other equipment is not standard and must be requested and confirmed before quotation.
Is 1,000 kg the actual available payload?
No. It is the maximum load limit. Actual goods capacity is broadly the permitted gross vehicle weight minus unladen weight, fuel, the driver, accompanying staff and existing equipment. Solar panels, batteries, sound equipment, display racks, a driver and two distribution staff can reduce the available capacity substantially below 1,000 kg. Plan using net available payload and leave a margin.
How do I calculate leaflet weight?
Use: leaflet weight in grams = paper area in square metres × paper weight in gsm. A4 is 210 × 297 mm, approximately 0.0624 m². An A4 leaflet weighs about 8 g at 128 gsm, 10 g at 157 gsm and 12.5 g at 200 gsm. Five thousand 128 gsm A4 leaflets weigh about 40 kg; 20,000 weigh about 160 kg, excluding cartons.
How much do bottled drinks weigh?
A case of 24 × 500 ml bottles of water or drinks weighs about 12–13 kg including bottles and the carton. Drinks usually account for most of a sampling campaign's load. Multiply the case count by weight per case and compare it with the available payload.
What equipment can solar power support?
It is better suited to daytime use in good sunlight and lower-power tasks such as small lights, charging or simple playback. Treat solar as supplementary power. Essential equipment, including registration tablets, payment terminals and required video playback, should also have vehicle or backup power.
Will cloudy or rainy weather affect it?
Yes. Solar output falls substantially in cloudy or rainy weather and when parked indoors. Plan backup power or reduce reliance on solar-dependent equipment. Hong Kong Observatory open datasets provide regional global, direct and diffuse solar radiation, updated every 10 minutes, to help assess general sunlight conditions for power-sensitive activities.
What can Wi-Fi support?
QR registration, surveys, tablets and content updates. Actual speed depends on mobile coverage, building obstructions and the number of users. For large volumes of live registrations or streaming, test the location first and prepare a fallback, such as offline registration forms.
What rules apply when collecting personal data on site?
Unless an exemption applies, using personal data for direct marketing requires prior notice of the intended use, the kinds of data and classes of marketing subjects involved, and the need for consent, together with a response channel. Valid consent must be explicit and voluntary; silence is not consent. General breaches of direct-marketing requirements carry a maximum penalty of HK$500,000 and three years' imprisonment.
Is a licence required to distribute leaflets?
Distribution itself generally does not require a licence, but its consequences are regulated. Under the Fixed Penalty (Public Cleanliness and Obstruction) Ordinance (Cap. 570), littering in public places carries a HK$3,000 fixed penalty; shopfront obstruction and unlawful depositing of large amounts of waste carry HK$6,000 penalties. Do not stack supplies or cartons on pavements, and assign staff to clean the distribution area regularly.
Can I put a pull-up stand on the pavement?
Exercise particular care. Under Cap. 570, unauthorised display of bills or posters carries a HK$3,000 fixed penalty. Since March 2011, FEHD has issued fixed-penalty notices for unauthorised promotional displays in public places, including pull-up stands. Keep stands and boards within private venues, shop premises or approved locations, and rely on hand distribution and vehicle graphics in public places.
How can I reduce the risk of littering?
Five measures help: offer useful items such as vouchers, discount cards and samples; do not force handouts on unwilling recipients; provide waste or recycling arrangements and inspect the area regularly; distribute smaller quantities across several sessions; and keep supplies and cartons on the vehicle to avoid obstruction.
How does a mini promotional truck differ from a mini vintage van?
The promotional truck emphasises payload, solar power and flexible equipment for neighbourhood coverage and distribution. The vintage van uses its retro appearance to encourage dwell time and photos, with a 26-inch TV and external speakers supporting brand presentation. They can share a campaign: the vintage van anchors the photo area while the promotional truck distributes materials nearby.
Should I choose this or an LED advertising truck?
Choose an LED truck for daily content changes, video and evening shopping-district exposure; its P3 screen is approximately 6.3 m². Choose a mini promotional truck for narrow streets, neighbourhood access and carrying distribution supplies. Measurement differs too: LED campaigns rely on scans, while mini trucks allow direct calculation of cost per handout and store visitor. Combine both if the budget allows.
Can it transport campaign supplies?
Yes. The maximum load of 1,000 kg supports leaflets, samples, gifts, pull-up stands and small booth materials, subject to actual available payload. Combining exposure and logistics can reduce the need for another goods vehicle or warehouse replenishment trips. Confirm weight, volume, securing methods, loading locations and loading times in advance.
Can you arrange distribution staff?
Promoters, distribution assistants and event supervisors can be arranged as needed. Staffing depends on footfall, quantities, route length and operating hours. Section 40 of the Employees' Compensation Ordinance requires insurance for all employees regardless of contract length, working hours or full-time or part-time status. Failure to insure carries a maximum penalty on conviction of HK$100,000 and two years' imprisonment.
Can the vehicle enter housing estates or private premises?
Obtain management approval in advance and confirm entrances, access routes, parking positions, hours and security requirements. Do not enter or distribute materials on private premises without permission.
Can it remain parked by the roadside for a long time?
Do not assume this is permitted. Major commercial districts often have parking restrictions, and stopping may be prohibited at bus, minibus and taxi stops, crossings, expressways, tunnels, controlled areas and no-stopping zones. Arrange extended stationary activities on private premises, within shop boundaries or at approved locations. Touring remains subject to ordinary road rules.
Can we play music or announcements?
Control volume and hours and follow venue rules. Section 5(1)(b) of the Noise Control Ordinance (Cap. 400) makes it an offence to use a loudspeaker, megaphone or other amplifier at any time in domestic premises or a public place if the noise causes annoyance amounting to a nuisance. Vehicle-mounted speakers are also covered. Mini trucks often operate near homes and schools, so prioritise visuals and staff interaction.
Can we offer food or drink samples?
This depends on the activity. Reheating, cooking or selling food may require a Temporary Food Factory Licence under FEHD guidance. It lasts no more than seven days and costs HK$220. Submit FEHB 201A or FEHB 201B with proposed layout plans at least 12 working days before the intended start date.
Can the vehicle graphics change during the campaign?
Printed graphics and stickers are physical materials. Changing them requires new production and installation, with additional time and cost. General market information indicates around 14 days for vehicle printing and installation. An LED truck is better for frequent content changes.
Can people scan a vehicle QR code while it is moving?
It is difficult because pedestrians have little time to focus their cameras. Put a memorable short URL or discount code on the vehicle and QR codes on handouts. Staff distribution makes this a practical advantage over vehicles used solely for exposure.
How long do booking and production take?
Book the vehicle at least a week ahead. General market information suggests around 14 days for printed vehicle graphics or stickers; design and revisions usually bring the overall lead time to three to five weeks. Large print quantities, staffing and venue approval require longer. Enquire one or two months ahead in peak periods.
Can I hire it for half a day?
Confirm the minimum hours and charging method when requesting a quotation, including whether departure, driving, distribution and return time all count. Some suppliers define a day as eight hours within 10 am–10 pm; others allow nine hours from arrival at the target location. These differences directly affect the total cost.
Which areas suit mini promotional trucks best?
High-density areas offer the greatest efficiency. Census and Statistics Department figures for 2024 show the highest population densities in Kwun Tong, at about 59,000 people/km², followed by Sham Shui Po at 47,000 and Wong Tai Sin at 44,000. The largest populations were in Sha Tin, about 704,000, Yuen Long, 677,000, and Kwun Tong, 668,000. Dense areas allow the same driving time to reach more residents and support efficient distribution.
How many districts should we cover?
Usually, greater focus is better. Repeated visits to one area build stronger recognition than a single tour across Hong Kong: seeing the same vehicle at the same time three or four times is more memorable. If only eight or nine hours are available, two hours of harbour-crossing travel consumes roughly a quarter of effective contact time. Focus on adjacent areas and schedule more distant districts on different days.
Is longer-term rental better value than short-term rental?
Usually, because vehicle graphics are a one-off investment. Design, printing and application costs arise whether the hire lasts one day or a month, so longer campaigns spread that cost over more days. Mini trucks particularly suit local businesses needing a consistent neighbourhood presence. As a market reference, published rental-platform prices list small mobile advertising vehicles at around HK$4,500 per day or HK$29,000 per month.
Will rain affect the campaign?
Driving may generally continue, but outdoor distribution, staff and paper materials are affected. The Labour Department's adverse-weather code advises supervisors to suspend outdoor work as soon as practicable and arrange safe shelter if an Amber, Red or Black Rainstorm Warning is issued during working hours. Follow the contract's suspension, make-up time and postponement arrangements.
How do we measure mini promotional truck results?
Handouts can be counted and discount codes tracked, allowing direct calculation of cost per handout and store visitor. For example, HK$8,000 spent, 3,000 vouchers distributed and 90 redeemed gives about HK$2.7 per handout and HK$89 per store visitor. Use different codes for each area to identify the strongest response, then focus the next round on the best two or three districts.
How is the price calculated?
Pricing depends on dates, days, daily hours, routes, cross-district or harbour travel, production, staff, supplies, overtime, fuel, tunnel tolls and weather contingencies. Mini trucks usually have a lower daily hire rate than large LED trucks, but staffing and print production can become the main expense. Compare the total cost structure and request an itemised quotation.
